Tn defeating the highly-rated player Budge, the diminutive Grant again p ayed his favourite role of thwarting the tennis aspirations of leading American contenders for championship honours. When the postponed match was resumed, in the third set Giant was leading 2/1. Budge displayed the hard attack which brought him success * Europe, and managed to squeeze 7/5 win. Tn the fourth, his terrific ’ : os continued to function, and he g ined ■: 3/2 and thirty love lead, but ip-n G- nt rallied, broke the other’s :erri?e. nd reverting to a prudent back-court game, forced Budge into a series of errors, to take th P last four games snd the match.
