TIMBER WORKERS’ UNION

EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the executive of the above union was held* on Friday and Saturday last, the fol-owing members being present: Messrs B. Topp (presx dent),. J. Rooney, D. Faris, J. Doyle. J. U.cllaud, C. Barrow and th© secretary. Mr J. Doyle- was elected 1© represent the union at’ a meeting of the Greymouth district unions to appoint a representative on the Board of Gov erners of the Grey Technical College. An appeal from the New Zealand Workers’ Union for funds to help to .organise the public works men in New Zealand iwas received, and 10s 6d was voted for this purpose. A 'eng’lhy discussion took place in connection with a proposed hospital scheme, and tho executive decided tn recommend the adoption of same t»* the general meeting to be held tho following day. The matter of 4rentinvntl being ‘noted out to workers by the W.C. (S.l.i M. Insurance Co., was fully discussed, and it was decided to place the matter before the general meeting with :< recommendation that) some definite nc «tion be taken. Tho matter, of on© ©r two members not paying their subscriptions promptly was fully discussed, ami the sec re'tary was instructed to place the niabter in the hands of the union solicitor to take necessary action. A large amount of routine correspondence, both inward and outward, was fully dealt with. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual geneital meeting was held in the Lyceum Hall on Saturday las:, there being a good number ol members present. The matter of a hospital scheme was fully explained by the secretary and discussed, the meeting unanimously agreeing to a scheme separate from the union being brought into existence if possible. A discussion in connection with the men’s rights, under the award, to have a half-holiday on Saturdays was discussed, and it was recommended to all mills to take a vote on the question with the purpose of making the pro postil universal throughout all mills on the Coast.

The following officers were duly elected or nominated for 'the various positions:—• President—J. Doyle. Vice- President —J. Rooney. Secretary-Treasurer—F. L. Turley. Commit-tee for Hokitika district— W. Berrick and J. Clelland (elected). Committee for Buller district —Nominations: B. Topp. D. Faris and J Ramsey. There being only two want ed, an election will be necessary for this district. Committee for Otiita. lino district Nominations: C. Barrow. J. Faulkner, and W. Moates. There being only tv,o wanted, an election will be necessary for this district. Trustees—G. Harwood and E- Bar row wer© re-elected. 4i Argus” Directors —D. Faris and J. Dove were elected. Returning Officer—A. Galbraith was elected. Auditor—Mr E. Souter was appointed.
