STREET MURDER
CORONER’S VERDICT On Gladesville Victims (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received August 13 at 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 13. The City Coroner to-day concluded the inquiry into the shooting affray on August 2 at the suburb of Gladesville, when Mrs. Emmaline Andrews, aged 25 years, formerly a wardsmaid employed at Gladesville Mental Asylum, was shot dead by a Russian, Peter Kopievsky, 58 years, a wharf labourer, who afterwards committed suicide with his revolver. The shooting was related by a motorist, Francis Hume, who was driving his car near the scene when he observed Kopievsky speak to the woman Andrews, who was about to go on duty at a neighbouring asylum. lie then saw Andrews rush across the read, and Kopievsky follow her. He fired three shots. The woman then dropped dead on the tramline. Hume was eluded by Kopievsky when he tn?d to run the latter down. The Coroner found that Kopievsky murdered Mrs. Andrews and then committed suicide. The Coroner said that it would «cem that Kopievsky had been carrying or with Mrs. Andrews, who was separated from her husband, and that Kopievsky had given her considerable mms of money over a period of two or three years. The Coroner paid a tribute to Hume for his action.
