(Our Own Correspondent.> Mrs Knowles, Main Road, has returned to Blackball aftier a lengthy visit to her relatives in England. Messr s Arnold Openshaw and Robert Anderson, of Burnett’s Face, were visitors to their parents, Mr and Mrs Openshaw (Main Road), and Mr and Mrs G. Anderson (Brodie Street)., respectively, over the week-end. Mr A. V. McLuskie has gone to Christchurch on a holiday visit. Mrs C. Cochrane. Stafford Street, has taken over th e business so long carried on by Mrs Dorward. who has gone to reside in Auckland. She intends carrying on from her residence in Stafford Street. We wish her sue cess in the venture. A meeting of Blackball Womens Institute was held in the Druids’ Hall on August 7, Mrs Chilton presiding and 22 members attending. In the absence of the secretary, Mrs Hutchinson took ’the minutes. It was decided that the secretary wrif-e the Blind Institute for a catalogue for discussion at next meeting. The roll call for the evening was “A Good Recipe.” A competition (an article from odds and ends of wool) resulted: Mrs Butterworth (cuddly duck) 1; Miss Duncan 2; Mrs Sneddon and Mrs Jame s (a tie) 3. The competition for the evening was one in carrying peas on a knife, and was won by Miss Shields. The roll call for next meeting is “Don’ts for the Kitchen.” Supper was served by the hostesses, Mrs Park, Mrs Butterworth and Miss Duncan. The monthly meeting of the Bine,ba’l School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday last, 'rhe mem-i ' bers present were: Mesdames Driscoll,

Anders,on and Park; Messrs Kibblewhite (headmaster), and A. MaeDoux all (secretary). In the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Mrs Park was voted to the position. All outstanding accounts were passed for payment. The headmaster’s report was submitted and endorsed as satisfactory. In the club rooms. Blackball, on Friday evening ’ast a social and presentation was tendered to Mr Johnnie Anderson, on his caving to take his place hi the South Island team which plays against the North Tsluid this week-end in the League match. Mr D. Kidd, in making the presentation, gave a review of *»he Blackball Club’s part in the League code, and hoped that Mr Anderson would play la good game, for he felt sure that Mr Anderson would get his place in the New Zealand team. Mr Anderson thanked those who had made it pos sible for him to make the trip to Auek’and, so that he c.ou d do his best in the gamp, agains* the North Island. Tie hoped that the South would return victors? Dad Kerr spoke in glowing terms of Mr Anderson, and hoped that he would make good in the League code. (Of course Dad held the floor for about two hours giving us his record when he placed tootball!). Mr J. Kidd congratulated, Mr Anderson in getting into the South Island team, remarking that h P had everything in his favour —vouHi, heigh . weight, and good football —and he could not see where anyone con'd keep Mr Anderson r»ir‘ of the New Zealand team. Mr J. Hunt, on behalf of th e Blackball Club, congratulated Mr Anderson on getting into the South Island feam. and hoped that he would play a good game agninst the North Island. Mr J. Dodds, nn behalf of l+ he Blackbal’ senior congratulated Mr Anderson on getting into the team. It was the wish of everyone in Blackba’l thu J i he should get his cap in the New Zealand team. It was Mr Diodd’s opinion that the SotPh Island would get the lion’s! share of the forwards in the New Zealand fleam. and so far as Mr An derson’s play as a forward wen!, he wn« the second best in the South Is land.
