Clive Woodward, aged 13 years, was knocked down by a motor ear driven by M. J. Bonham this morning, and was later taken to hospital with, scalp wounds and concussion. DUNEDIN STEAM LAUNDRY BURNED DOWN. DUNEDIN, August 10. As a result of destructive and spectacular fire, Clark’s Steam Laundry, which was established 65 years ago iu North-East Valley was razed to the ground in the early hours of this morning. The outbreak was not discovered till the flames had taken a strong hold, and although there was an ample supply of water the brigade’s task was hopeless from the start. Summoned by late calls, the firemen had a narrow escape, for just as they were advancing to attack the flames a large wall collapsed outwards and bricks were scattered about at their feet. The building and plant were insured in the Norwick Union Office for £2OOO. ABATTOIR DESTROYED. TE AROHA, August 10. Fire destroyed the municipal abattoir this morning. The blaze had a strong hold when the fire brigade arrived. The building was demolished within an hour, and no contents were saved. The building of wood, iron and concrete was erected in 1925, at a cost of over £3OOO. It was insured tn the New Zealand Office, with the contents, for £2510.
