New German Fabric STRIKES STRONG COMPETITION. (Received August 12 at 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, August 12. The Berlin correspondent of the Financial News, says: The world production of staple fibre has during the last few months increased even faster than the production of artificial silk. A total of 28,540 meteric tons of staple fibre was produced during the first six months of 1935, this representing an increase of seventy-five per cent, over that during the corresponding period of 1934. Japan produced 11,350 tons of the fibre, Italy 7560 tons, Germany 5520 tons, France 1475 tons, and Britain 1455 tons. There are further increases now planned. The “Financial Times” says: Official intervention has reduced the vistra fibre price from two marks per kilogram to one decimal eighty marks. The monopoly and the cartel agreements between the producers and the consumers have been suspended. The manufacturers who had been p'edged to use the German vistra fibre now have yarn nearer to Italian and Japanese prices ruling at Hamburg.
