GOVERNMENT SEEKS CANDIDATE (Ppt Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, August 12. A report from Gore states that interest is developing in the selection of a. Government candidate to contest the Mataura seat at the general election. The names of four probable candidates have been mentioned and it is expected that they will go before a ballot at a meeting to he held shortly. Their names are: A. J. Cameron, farmer of Gore; A. L. Dolamore, solicitor, of Gore; T. Golden, farmer, of Fortrose; and F. H. Murney, fanner, of Tapanui. Dunedin Central GOVERNMENT NOMINEE. DUNEDIN, August 12. At a meeting of supporters of the National Political Federation to--night, the candidature of Mr W. 11. Sheppard for the Dunedin Central seat was unanimously endorsed. Mr Sheppard is a member of the City Council, and is manager of the Bell Tea Coy. WAIPAWA SEAT. (Bor Press Association., WAIPUKURAU. August 12. There was an attendance of forty electors 'at a publicly convened meeting of supporters of the National Political Federation held at Waipukurau this afternoon. Mr Chas. Pattison presided. Mr D. ArdelT (Dominion organiser) and Mr A. E. Jull. M.P., addressed the meeting. On the motion of Mr P. Hunter, seconded by Mr A. E. Averill, a resolution was unanimously carried, that the meeting endorse the agreement entered between the leaders of thp. Reform and United Parties to federate for the purpose of contesting the forthcoming election as a National Government. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr D. Eddy, it >was resolved that the meeting confirm the candidature of Mr A. E. Jull. M.P.. as the National candidatic for Waipawa electorate, and agree to do everything possible to secure. his election. Oamaru, Patea and Wallace NATIONAL EXECUTIVE ENDORSEMENTS. As n result of a ballot of members of the loeal Labour Party affiliations the Rev. A. IT. Nordmeyer has been selected as the Party’s candidate for Oamaru. Mr. Nordmeyer, Whose candidature has been endorsed by the Party’s nat :r nal executive, was born in Dunedin 34 years ago. He spent his early boyhood in Alexandra and later in Oamaru receiving his secondarv education at the Waitaki Boys’ High School. At the University of Otago he received his B.A. degree and the Dip'oma in Social Science. At lhe end of his University enttrse lie entered Knox College Theological Hall whence he was called t'o the Kttrow Presbyterian Church where he has been minister for e’ose on ten years. Mr. Nordmeyer was an able debater at the University being selected to represent Otago against 51ie debating team of the Oxford Union. Tn his own district he has closely identified himself with public affairs and is a member of the Waitaki Hospital Board. Ho is keenly interested in sport being n. referee and selector of the fßtagby Football Sub Union. Mr. W. G. Simpson, of Ha-wera, has been selected as the I.nhonr P*nrtv cnndida.ie for Paten. He is a business man in TTawern and is n member of the TTnwera Hospital Board.
