Mr. H. E. Jarman has been appointed general manager of the Christchurch Tramways, in succession to Mr. Frank Thompson, who resigned five months ago. Mr. Jarman was formerly accountant to the Board.

Vice-Admiral Sir Charles Little will succeed Vice Admiral Dreyer as Com-mander-in-Chief of the China station in January. Mr Thompson leaves to-day for Christchurch.

A Press Association message states that Messrs. J. D. Lewis and E. H. Sealy were chosen yesterday, as the Auckland University College’s nominees for Rhodes Scholarships in 1936. Mr. Lewis, who graduated B.A. this year, is president of the Students’ Association and a prominent athlete. Mr. Sealy aged 22, graduated M.Sc. with first-class honours last year, and is also proficient in music and sports. His activities cover a wide field.

The wedding took place at St. Patrick’s Church yesterday morning, of Elizabeth Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Brady, Ten Mile, and John, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Doyle of Rapahoe. Rev. Father T. McKeon performed the ceremony, and also celebrated Nuptial Mass. Miss Moira Murphy attended the bride as bridesmaid, and Mr. William Page was best man. A reception was held at Herb. Moore’s.

The death occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. Fettes, Khandallah, Wellington on Sunday, of Mr. Edward Adkins, for a number of years coaching foreman, Railways P c P ar ? ment, Greymouth. The late Mr Adkins was well-known on the West Coast and retired on superannuation at Greymouth, and Irad since resided at Wellington. lie was a native ot Canterbury and is survived by his wile and daughter.
