N.Z. Ladies’ Team DEFEAT SYDNEY EEPS. (Received Augus: 11, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 11. Playing their last match in Australia yesterday, the New Zealand women’s hockey team brilliantly defeated Sydney Metropolitan team by 4 goals to 1. after the score had been 1-1 at half-time. The New Zealand team was: Mrs O’Connor; Misses McDonald, Woolley; Mackie, Sanson. Hansen: Savile, McKenzie, Reid. Dahlberg and Cotter. With pretty, short passing movements. the New Zealanders kept the citv team on the defensive throughout the second half. Miss Read scored one goal and Miss Cotter three goals. AUCKLAND, August 11. In the New Zealand Challenge Shield hockey match, Auckland 8 beat Poverty Bay 1. PACIFIC AND COBDEN DRAW. Saturday’s hockey fixtures were played at the Rec-earion Ground, which was in first class order. Pacific 1 (scored by Sequin) drew with Cobden 1 (scored by Eatwell). The <rame was a good one, played at a fast. pace. The Pacific forwards kept their positions well, but lacked finish, in the circle. MAWHERA 8, WESLEY 2. Mawhera secured an easy win over Weslev by 8 goals to 2. For Mawhera goals were scored by Sloss Walker Devonport (2 each). Wt’ltams and Perrin, whilst. Sotheran and Moore scored for Wesley. Mawhera did not go all out to secure goals, and let many chances go amiss. Wesley, however. showed considerable improvement on last week’s game. Mr K. E. Balehin refereed.
