NEW RIFLE
For British Forces 50 SHOTS A MINUTE. (Received August 11 at 6.30 p.m:) LONDON. August 10. The “Dispatch” says: After tests of five British and two foreign rifles, the War Office has adopted a new service rifle which is of British design. It is gas-operated, and is self-loading. The rifle fires fifty aimed shots per minute. It is virtually a light machine gun. The issue of the new rifle to British forces will cost three millions, necessitating a supplementary estimate.
