DANZIG COUP

AGAINST POLAND. FREE ENTRY OF GERMAN GOODS. LONDON, August 1. The ‘‘Times’s” Danzig correspondent says.- As the result of a tariff war with Poland, a state of emergency has been proclaimed in Danzig. Arthur Greiser, president of the Danzig Senate has been given dictatorial powers, and to save the city from starvation. Greiser has proclaimed imports of foodstuffs, coal and other essential commodities henceforth to be free from duty, thus opening the Gorman-Danzig frontier. The situation arises from a recent Polish refusal to allow goods destined for Poland to pass through Danzig, unless the duties thereon were collect ed in Polish currency, resulting in the complete cessation of the transit traffic on which Danzig depends.
