Returning to B> enheim with the Shield, at the end of the 1906 season, Alai thorough retained, it against ad. comers until 1913, when Buller won it’ Buller successfully defended 'the bnield against al.-comers in 1913 and 1914 2 and then the war interrupted the contest. Ihe Shield ‘ remained in B enheim until 1922, when Nelson gained a surprise victory and they retained possession until, in 1923, it went to West Coas’L. West Coast, however, affler playing a .draw with Bullen lost the trophy to Golden Bay by 3 to nil, :i fortnight after securing it. Golden Bay-Motueka retained the Shield until their last match in 1924, when Ala ribo rough lowered their colours by 6 to 3, and departed for Bien helm with the Shield, aud retained possession until 1926, when Golden Bay-Motueka again won by 10 to 3, oniy to i.ose it to Nelson the next maitch, the score being 17 to 14. Nelson established a record by successfully defending the trophy on eleven consecutive occasions until Alarlborough were successful in 1929. Buller had a long teim iir possession from 1930 to 1932. West Coast then took a turn tor a year and in 1934 Marlborough won the first challenge of the «eason and withstood three challenges.
