MINER KILLED AT ROA

By Fall of Stone Aj the result of the falling of a larg- piece of stone from the roof near a face of coal in the Roa mine yesterday morning. James O’Donnell, single, aged 22, was killed instantly. A shot had been fired by the deputy. Mr Thomas McGuigan. Then deceased and his workmate, Mr John Stenhouse went to the face to remove the coal. Deceased was filling the truck when a large piece of stone, weighing several hundredweight, came away from rho roof. The stone struck O’Donnell,, inflicting extensive and fatal injuries. A native of Runanga, the deceased | worked at the Liverpool State mine at Rewanui prior to going to Roa. where ho had been employed only a few months. His parents. Mr and Mrs James O’Donnell, reside at Runanga. Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Leo, and two sisters, Maisie and Margaret all of Ranfurly Street, Runanga. Deceased was a relative of Mr A. O’Donnell, manager of the Roa mine. An inquest will be held at Blackball this afternoon, before a Justice of the Peace and a jury. The funeral will take place to-mor-row;. leaving the Sacred Heart Church. Runanga. at 9.30 a.m. ;or Karoro Cemetery.
