REWANUI SCRUB FIRE
RAILWAY BRIDGE DAMAGED. A scrub fire wh’eh yesterday raged on the hillside adjacent to the Re«anui railway line caused a. deal of dam age during the morning to the railwax bridge which span s the creek near the eoal binns of Messrs Wi'liams and Parfv about two miles this side of Rewanui. The fire on the hillside continued all day. Tn -addition to the bridge, the telephone, and tablet wires of the Railway Department, and the telephone line of the P. and T. Department were also damaged. Fanned bv a strong wind, Ihe fire continued to rage throughout the afternoon, causing large quantities of fair sized stones to break away from the hillside and. as a result damage was caused to the. centre rail, thus affecting train traffic. The damaged stringers of the bridge were replaced yesterday morning. and train running operations were resumed, but a break in the centre (brake) rail again held up operations. The train will run as far as the bridge this morning, and the miners will require tn -walk the remainder of the. distance to the Liverpool min'', which wfle Idle-] yesterdav as the result of the d/image tn the bridge.
