OPOSSUM SKIN SALE

At the first -sale of the season held on Friday at Dunedin,, the total offering distributed amongst «ho eight selling brokers was 10.773 skins. Dalgety and Co. report:—Our catalogue comprised 7.290 skins, drawn from all parts of Otago, :*lso Canter bury, West Coast, Nelson, Taranaki Wanganui and Auckland districts. Owing to the late opening of the Otago seasons, there was only a comparatively small quantity of southern skins offered, these being practically all in our catalogue. We quote light colours, i.e. blues and greys, etc.. Is to Is 66 higher than las' season, and blacks and browns Gd to Is Gd lower than October and fully 2s lower than lust July. The top prices for th c sale obtained in our catalogue were 12s Gd for blue s and 5s Gd for blacks. Actually prices for dark colours were hotter than expectations, especially when it is borne in mind that practi rally the whole of last season’s exports, and some of the previous yeur’i»f these colours arc still in Londo 1 quite unsaleable, due to the complete absence of demand from the chicusing countries on the Conti non*. Cat I ins skins sold up to 8s 76 each u’l over, whilst from Wanganui and Auckland numerous consignments averaged between 6s and 7s. Tn other districts averages, varied considerably according fb the proportion of dirk colours. Averages obtained in oui catalogue for representative consign ments from various districts were. — Otago and 'Gatlins Gs 66 to 8s 76, Southland 5s to Gs Gd, South Cantorbury 3s Gd to 4s 3d. Nor’h Canterbury 5s to Gs 66. Nelson 4s Gd to Gs Gd, West Coast 3s to 4s ( Auckland 6* to 7s, Wanganui 5s Gd o 7s, Taranaki 4s 66 to 6s. Some sales were; Blues 25 at 12s Gd. 20s at 12s, 36 at Ils lid 19 at Ils 6d, 82 at Ils 9d, 29 at 10s lid, 82 .nt Ils 3d, 29 at Ils 76; greys 25 nt Ils. G 7 at 10s Id, I at IDs 106 13 at 9s lid, and blacks 17 at 5s 6<i 18 at 5s 4<l 8? at 5s 3d. 25 at ss. 267 ar 4s Sd. 30 at 4s lid, 13] at 4s lOd, 202 at 4s. The range of prices at our sale tor grades Irom seconds was as follows: South.
