NEW DREDGE. LAUNCHING AT MATAKI JUNCTION. The pontoon of the dredge of the Mataki Junction G.D. Coy. was on Monday launched at 4 p.m. in a very successful manner, taking the water with a bird-like smoothness. The contractor, Mr. Gordon McKay, was in charge of operations. The following particulars of the structure were obtained by an tl Argus” representative from a member of the constructional staff, Mr. Jas Duffy: The pontoon, which is of Australian hardwood, has a length of 106 feet, a beam of 36 feet, and a depth of 8 feet 6 inches. Her total displacement will be 620 tons. When completed the dredge will be one of the most up-to-date in commission. Power will he supplied by a diesel electric generating set of 350 horsepower. It will be fitted with three pumps for tables and screen, with a. capacity of 6100 gallons per minute. The bucket line will consist of 66 buckets, made by Hadfields, of Manganese steel. The screen will have a length of 37 feet and diameter of 8 feet, and will be fitted with Hadfield’s “wearing plate” of Manganese steel. The dredge will handle 25,000 yards per week, and it is the eighth dredge of which the firm of W. G. McKay, constructing engineer, has either com- < pleted or in hand. The launching was duly celebrated, the toast of the contractor, Mr. McKay and Mrs. McKay’

being musically honoured, while that of the staff was drunk, no less heartedly by themselves and all present.
