(Our Own Correspondent.) Supremacy in Sport: WESTPORT. July 30. Bul’er on many occasions has given evidence of supremacy over Coast in different phases of sport, but’ .seldom in one week-end is that supremacy so forcibly emphasised as was the ease on Saturday anil Sunday. In the Da'gleish Shield contest, which should be classed ns the blue ribbon of Coast, go'f. Westport players completely shadowed the Greymouth challengers, in the Chatham Cup soccer final played at Millerton Marisrt (Greymouth) were soundly trounced by the local A.U B'aeks. Our rugby representatives r-nme out victorious over Coast at Greymout’h and a team of riflemen from Runanga district were convincingly defeated by the Westport Club. What about a Wheelbarrow race? Gorse Ablaze: Thg Fire Brigade had .difficulty yesterday in coping with a blaze which took place in a section of gorse in Wakefield Street', and which at one time threatened the residence of Mr Lawery. T.h e flames spread rapidly and were fanned by a strong breeze bowing at the time. Buller Rugby Union: Mr F. Keating was in the chair at the usual weekly meeting of the Buller Rugby Union held last evening. The Secretary was authorised to forward to the Hutt Football Cub, Wellington. information asked for regarding clubs and 'their seeret’aries in the Buller district. It was agreed to for ■card the Nelson Rugby Union a congratulatory message on 'the occasion of their jubilee and also a telegram to the A l Blacks extending wishes for successful and enjoyable -tour. A team from Runanga Miniature Rifle Club visited Westport during the week-end and fired a match with the .local club. Westport Club won by a margin ul I'J points. Mr E. McFadden was in the chair at the usual fortnightly meeting of the Westport branch of the Farmers Union Prior to the transaction of business a vote of condolence was passed to Mi- M. Durkin on the death of his father, all present st'anding. Mr Morris who represented the branch at the recent Dominion Conference, held al Wellington, submitted a comprehen sive report of the business done. Im portairt' matters. Mr Morris stated, were brought before the Conference and a full and free discussion was al lowed. The delegate was accorded a vote of thanks for his report. Music Examinations Delayed: The local secretary for the Trinity (‘,,1 'ego of Music. Mr J. Radford, has received advice that Mr C. Egerton Low Examiner for the South Island, would not arrive in New Zealand until the middle of August, which would mean a delay in the holding Oi the examinations. Mr Low was travelling to New Zealand by the s.s. Niagara when the vessel collided with a freighter soon after leaving Vaneou ver. The mishap has been responsible for the interference with Mr Low’s arrangements. Shipping: The following boats were berthed:
Karepo, Kaimai, Totara, Parera, Rata and Canopus. The port presented an unusually (enlivened. ap[pearance yesterday. The Totara, ißata and Parera sailed yesterday. The Kaimai sailed this morning. The Karepo is due to sail to-night. With the rush of shipping, there was a shortage of labour.
