DEPARTURE FROM N.Z. Round of Farewells (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 30. After two crowded days, .-pent in attending farewell gatherings. the Xew Zealand Rugby team is due to • < ail at seven o’clock to-morrow mornng for the tour of Great Britain and Canada. The members of the loam had a par ticularly busy day to-day. At 10 a.m.. 'hey were the guests of Lol I ami •' -way at morning tea at Government House. The Roman Catholic members of the party were farewelled bv th% Marist Brothers’ Old Boys. The team were the guests of the New Zealand Rugby Union at’ dinner to-night. Afterwards the team attended the Poneke Rugby Football Club’s dance at the Town Hall from which they made their way 'to the Rangitiki. Quite apart from the desirabilitv of identifying a national team bv name of its country we feel that advantage should be taken of the tours by national teams *o advertise nur little country as much as possible. TO MEET M.C.C. CRICKET TEAM. WELLINGTON, July 30. Shirtly after the arrival of the New Zealand Rugby team in England, an M.C.C. team will be leaving for a tour of New Zealand, playing matches in Australia en route. The opportunity has been taken by the Wel'ington. Cricket Associatiin to forward greetings to the M.C.C. team per medium of the captain, J. E. Manchester, and the vice-captain. C. J. Olliver. Tt is probable that the members of both teams, Rugby and cricket, will meet at a sportsmen’s function to be held in London early in September in honour of the New Zealand Rugby team. MAORI TEAM. LONG KICKING CONTEST PROPOSED. MELBOURNE. July 29. A novelty has been arranged in connection with Saturday’s Rugby match Maoris v. Victoria, arising from a suggestion made here that the Rugby Union was not so conducive to long accurate kicking as the Austra’ian Rules game. The Vidorian Rugbv Union inte- <’■ asking Nepia or Hemi to participate in a kicking contest with Harry Vi - lence, a prominent Melbourne player under Australian Rules. SYDNEY. July 30.
