The changed regulations to permit importation of spring scats, h e . said, would alone throw out of work at least 60 men, and seriously affected also would be manufacturers of batteries, bumpers, and upholstery, together with a tannery, which had imported a supply of leather for in terior furnishing. Further, the change in the regulations, it was understood would permit the importation of stee' cabs. etc., for motor trucks. Hitherto body building for trucks tmd been a most steady part of th,- work of New Zealand coach builders al' ore. the Dominion, and at least a dozen coach building firms would now find difficulty in carrying on. As nil trucks had hitherto had cabs and bodies made of Now Zealand wood, the beech timber industry would also be affected.
