Opera House “THE CASE OF THE HOWLING DOG’’ When Erie Stanley Gardner originated his world famous character of Perry Mason, lie created a now type of criminal lawyer. Tin* average criminal lawyer receives all clients, and uses his skill to obtain for them either freedom or a iglit sentence. In many cases they have been powerful politicians as well as lawyers. Perry Mason is portrayed by Warren William in Warner Bros. latest murder thriller. ‘‘The Case of the Howling Dog”, which will open at the Opera House to-day. Tie is an attorney who looks beyond the law at justice, lie believes Mary Astor, in the rob* of a deserted wife, had ki'led her husband. Put as the victim was a cowardly murderer, he obtains her acquittal and the case ends without the police knowing who actually killed the man for whose death Miss Astor was being tried. The all-star cast includes Helen Trenholme, Allen Jenkins, Grant M’tcheH. Dorothy Tree, Helen Lowell and Gordon Westcott. Alan Crosland directed from the screen play by Ren Mark lan’d. “ONE NIGHT OF LOVE” “One Night of Love”, featuring Grace Moore (the girl with the voice, '■’ivine') r, 'ill commence a season of four nights and four matinees ar the Opera House on Monday afternoon at 2.30. The box plan is now open at the Theatre and patrons are requested to reserve as «non as possible. Regent Theatre “THERE GOES SUSIE” AND “THE MAN I WANT ’ Comeciy trnd farce, music and ro manee. are served in generous portions in the two feature films, “There Goer Susie” and "Th Man ’ Want” com niencing at ''.he ißegent Theatre al the matinee to-day. “There Goes Susie stars that king of funmakers. Gene Gerrard,, and humorous Henry Kendall takes the leading male role in “The Atari I Want.” In both pictures .the lovey Wendv Barrie hau the principal female role.' Both pictures provide ample opportunity for an almost unlimited number of ludicrous mistake 1 - and misunderstandings to happen. Necessity demands that they be unravelled and the process in each ease >■-' highly entertaining. Into well-eon-construeted plots are woven clever pas sages of repartee. To the attractiveness of “There Goes Susie” are added the songs of Gene Gerrard. Tn “The Man I Want” all, with the exception of Wendy Barrie are straight out humorists, and in some cases their dialogue and antics approach fare, . Wendv Barrie is a little more demure in this picture, but she is not a whit Jeus attractive. Among such a large team of actors, all set on provoking [slighter, Henry Kendall has his. work fu' out to remain prineipa' jester. Wdhout doubt, “The Man 1 Want” is first-class entertainment.
