STREET SALES

MONOPOLY FOR NEWSPAPERS CHRISTCHURCH COUNCIL DECISION. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 29. That only the daily newspapers and race cards* should be permitted to be sold in the streets of Christchurch was a decision made by the City Council tonight. It was further decidel, on the recommendation of the By-laws Committee, thai each vendor should be allowed one display board. The decision was in accordance with the report of a special committee which had been set up by the Council after it had been stated, at a meeting of the Council that the street sale of newspapers was “getting out of hand.” There w?’ some opposition to the proposal on the ground that a monopoly was being given to the daily papers. —
