Couple Killed PLANE FAILS ON HOAD. "(Received Mav 26. 7 p.m.) MELBOURNE, May 26. Mr G. P. Fairbairn, a member of a well-known Victorian pastoralist family, and his wife were killed to-day, when an aeroplane crashed, after tak-ing-off from Essen don aerodrome, for a. flight to their home. Immediately after taking-off. th° motor cut. out. and the machine went into a spin. It crashed on to a road, narrowly missing a motoi truck. Fairbairn learned to flv in England in 1930, and in the following year he made a leisurely flight to Vustra lia. Mrs Fairbairn was at the can trols when the ncUiden" occurred. Long Ocean Flight BY U.S.A. NAVAL SQUADRON. (Received Mav 27 at 6.30 p.m.) HONOLULU, May 25. A non-stop flight of 1323 miles fron Midway Island was yesterday complet ed by navy squadron <f V.P. Ten.’’ of six planes. The squadron alighted m Pearl Harbour at 9.25 p.m. on Friday This was the first distance non-stoj flight in this mid-Pacific area. Twenty six other planes flew in also from Frigate schools.
