At its meeting 'the Hospital Board accounts were passed as follows. —Re ceipts £460 Is 2d; expenditure: Pecuniary assistance £l9 15s, salaries £lBO 18s lid, Electric Light Co. £lO 15s 6d. W. As the Board would not guarantee fees, it was notified a patient was beiing dialcharged from Cashmere Sanatorium. A Waiuta resident advised he would pay for treatment of a daughter at the Sanatorium when he obtained work. South Canterbury Board forwarded an account of £l3 16s for a patient. North Canterbury Board agreed to be responsible for a patient at Reefton if the Insurance Company refused, and advised Waiuta Association made payments for their patients, but the Inangahua Board would be responsible. Offers of £1 weekly ajnd 15s weekly in payment of accounts were received, and for another amount it was decided to ask payment of 30s monthly. In a case where £5 was offered off an account, it was decided to allow seven days to pay the account.
At the Hospital Board meeting tenders were received and dealt with as follows: Groceries, Harold Bros; meat, J. Dick and Son; bread, Callaghan, Mori, Harold, 1/- per 41b loaf (month about); firewood, D. Williams, £1 per cord; funerals, S. Austin; wines and spirits, Harold Bros. Dr. J. L. Wickeu (Medical Superintendent) reporteu: Admissions 15, discharged 12, remaining in hospital 36, operations 3, anaesthetics 11, X-rays 10, births 7, deaths 2. Dr. Wicken pointed out the necessity for a sterilising apparatus. At present, this was being done in the kitchen. He also pointed out the necessity for doorways being increased to allow patients on beds being taken to the X-ray room. The chairman said the town members would inspect. Dr. W. A. Conlon wrote offering his services as assistant medical officer at Reefton Hospital at a salary of £125 per year. —Filed for reference. Waiuta Miners’ Medical Association wrote asking the Board to visit Waiuta and discuss matters between the Board and the Association. —The Secretary stated the Association had not honoured promises regarding payment. The Unemployed Prospectors’ Association wrote re two men who were burnt out asking for assistance. —The Secretary said that he had supplied each with blankets and food. The chairman’s suggestion that any further assistance be 'eft to the town members to attend to was approved. T. L. Floyd wrote re payment of carpenter working 60 hours per week instead of 40, as provided for in rules of Scheme No. 10 and asking for refund of 13/4. —It was decided to protest against the demand. The Public Trust Office, Greymouth, wrote re estate of A. E. Thorn, asking to be informed of what action to take also stating that mortgagor would pay £5 in June and instalments of £5, also giving information regarding other properties in the estate.—lt was decided that the section in West Front be offered for sale for £l2O nett. Wellington Board wrote re a patient from Wellington in Reefton, agreeing on reciprocal treatment of patients with pensions. At the County Council meeting a letter was received from the Mayor of Greymoulh re a representative of the Council on the West Coast Tourist Development Committee.—The Chairman was appointed. The Engineer was authorised to interview Messrs Winstan’ey and Delaney and Mr »T. J. O’Regan re the supply metal, and offer them the work at his specified price. Cr Watson moved and Cr Clarke sec ended that the Council recommend to the Public Works Department that repairs to the road at the whirlpool, at Black’s Point, take the form of a concrete wall at the road level.—Carried. Cr. Watson moved and Cr Blackadder seconded that the Engineer prepare an estimate of cost of repairs to Murray Creek Road, and that some open cul verts be placed on the road in the meantime.—Carried. It was resolved that the Engineer be instructed to have repairs done to the County steam tractor. The chairman’s honorarium was fixed at £BO per annum. Members’ travelling expenses were fixed. It was resolved that the Deputy Returning Officers who had been engaged, and whoso services were not required owing to there being no election in some Ridings, be paid. The Assistant Clerk was granted an increase in salary to the sum of £lO per calendar month. T. Phillips forwarded copy of application for prospecting license in Block TV, Mawheraiti S.D., from W. McKenzie and J. W. White, of Antonios.—Referred to the Engineer with power to act. P. Williams applied for the position of permanent roadman at Waiuta. — ( Referred to the Engineer. Waitahn School Committee wrote for a footpath from Waitahn Station to the school, also for attention to O’Grady Road.— Referred to the Engineer. Blackwater Creek Sluicing Coy. asked for attention to track to their claim.—Referred to the Engineer. Mrs N. L. Lochore, asked permission to connect Sections 915 and 916, Crampton Road, with water and sewerage systems.—Referred to the Engineer. Miss N. Gardiner wrote re bridge across Blackwater Creek. —- Resolved that the Council contribute £lO to this work, and the Engineer to proceed with it. Henry Betts drew attention to the state of Bett’ bridge, damaged by storm. T. Phillips, solicitor for Mrs M. Cuff, forwarded a copy of application for water race, situate in Block VIII. Mawheraiti S.D.. which crosses Blackwater-Waitua Road.—Request granted. H. Cameron, Alfred River wrote re track between Maruia River and camp on Alfred River.—Referred to the Mining Executive. Cr. Clayton was appointed to the District Highways Council.

their annual meeting. Dates were discussed. It waa decided to submit alternative proposals to 'the Trotting Cluli. The Racing Conference notified Mr E. W. Topp). It was decided t ‘ obtain authority to hold an art union, to ask the Jockey Club for use of seats for June 3rd; to register C. Clark and J- Douglas as Reefton juniors; to award the Cockerill Cup for a. .junior Knock-Out Competition; 1" conclude transfers, registrations a®d reclassifieatiuns bv June 10th; to have 17 men chosen for the rep. match against Wes*t Coast; and to submit the names of A.
