RUGBY FOOTBALL
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET. At the weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Kugby Union last evening, there were present Messrs J. Guy (acting chairman), T. Mclntosh, W. Williams, F. Eggleton, C. R. Bo Hinson, F. W. Baillie, J. Kyle, T. P. Ryan and the Secretary (Mr J. E. Joyee). An apology for absence was reeoived from the President, Mr A, A. Adams.
It was decided to advise the New Zealand Union that P. Walker, had again reverted to the League code. The reclassification of C. R. Cox aud R. Hopkinson (United Club) from senior to junior, was granted. Greymouth Main School were granted two footballs and Kokiri School one football.
The Blaketown Club wrote protesting against the manner in which the Lr.ion was conducting the fourth g-ade competition, stating that the Club’s fourth grade, team had not played a mat -h this season.
Protests agiiast the Unio i s decision to play senior fixtures on Saturday next were received from the United and Blaketown Clubs, as these clubs bud six and seven players respectively engaged in the representative match Greymouth v. Hokitika. United Chib stated that it would not be possible for it to field a team, whilst Blake town Club said it would endeavour to field a team.
It was decided to make application to the New Zealand Union for the annual school grant. J. Minchin, captain of the Star juniors was cautioned for failing to give the name of an offending player. C. Watson, a Star junior player, was ordered to stand down for one playing Saturday for using obscene language to the referee in the Star-Celtic match on Saturday week. It was decided that in future offenders should be more severely dealt with.
Mr W. Williams referred to the necessity for a shower at the sheds at Rugby Park. It was extremely necessary on a wet day, even if it was only a cold shower.
Mr Ryan said that showers could be put in at a moderate cost.
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs- Ryan, Williams and Baillie were appointed to go into the question. It was decided not to play senior fixtures on Saturday next, owing to the representative match at Hokitika.
It was pointed out by Mr Mclntosh that there would be fewer players absent on the following Saturday, the occasion of the Buller-West Coast match at Westport, when the fixtures could be resumed.
* W. McNeight was appointed captain and B. Scandrett vice-captain of the Greymouth team to play Hokitika, which will travel by train, assembling at the Greymouth railway station at 12.45 p.m. Mr F. Eggleton was appointed manager of the team, which is to strip at the Central Hotel, Hoki- | tika. It was decided that 17 players be chosen to travel to Westport. It was decided to reduce the admission charges for Saturday’s lower grade games to 6d. A vote of appreciation of the services of the ladies’ committees who worked so arduously in connection with the Queen Carnival was recorded on the minutes, and it was unanimously decided to issue all ladies of the various committees with a season’s Park ticket for admission to Rugby, as a small token of the Union’s appreciation of their fine effort. Two applications for re-admission to the code were ordered to be forwarded to the New Zealand Union with a favourable recommendation.
FIXTURES. Junior: United v. Blaketown, No. 1 ground, 3 p.m. (N. Eggleton); Star v. Cobden, No. 2 ground, Rugby Park 3 p.m. (D. Jarvis); Celtic a bye. Third Grade: Blaketown v. Cobden, Rugby Park, 1.30 (L. K. Hodge). Fourth Grade: Blaketown v. Combined Technical School team, Technical School ground 1-30 (E. Goodall). CHANGE IN REP. TEAM. M. Olsen (hooker) is not available to play for Greymouth against Hoki tika on Saturday, owing to an injury and will be replaced by Uniacke. R. Rear will now play in the back row of the scrum, and the emergency forward will be H. Mathieson. W. A. Vincent has returned to Greymouth and will fill the ha’f-back position in the United fifteen.
