ACQUITTAL OF ARSON CHARGE. CHRISTCHURCH, May 14/ Charged with wilfully setting fire to two haystacks, Chanel Patrick Murph v a labourer, aged 22, was to-day found not guilty. The stacks were valued at £l2O and £175. Murphy had made two statements to police, one on the morning ot the fires, denying complicity, and a second one admitting having caused both fires. In his evidence. Murphy said his first statement was correct. He had made rne second statement because he was told hv the detectives that, by making it he wou d save others from getting into trouble. The prisoner was discharged
