WELLINGTON SALE Prices on Low Side (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. March 21. Bidding was eager at the opening <»f the Wellington wool sale to-day. The total catalogue of 22.10(1 bales was submitted to a full attendance of buyers, representative of Yorkshire, Frame. Germany, Japan, and New Zealand. Prices were low, notwithstanding ■he keenness of the competition. Passings were relatively poor. Yorkshire gave the strongest support but at restricted limits. As the sale proceeded, it was clear "hat good wools of forties to fifties were very firm, and fully equal to the February values, but lower grades were from a farthing to a half-penny

down. Japan was the only onlooker. Panada was in the market for better Romnov wools, and in keen competition for them with Bradford. France was an eager buyer of pieces and bribes. Crutchings were keenly competed for at a farthing better than Febru•tv rates. The general opinion of brokers inclines to the view that the market is better than was anticipated. Review of Sale

MOST PRICES LOWER. A GOOD CLEARANCE. WELLINGTON. March 21. Contrary to expectations prices held fairly well at the sale. Bradford buvers bought largely. Operators on Canadian account keenly competed for better class Romneys. Compared to the February average, inferior Merinos were a farthing to a penny per lb lower: fine halfbreds were a halfpenny to three farthings lower, and medium sorts were from par to a halfpenny down, while extra fine crossbreds were a farthing to a halfpenny lower, but fine medium sold from par to a farthing advance. Coarse low crossbreds showed no change. Top price was 12|d for Pipitea super Sou th down wool. Good hoggets were firm, the top price being 9d. Considering the general quality of the wool and the present state of the market, the sale was a very good one. A substantial clearance was made. LONDON. March 20. The “Yorkshire Observer” states that Russians resumed operations at I the London wool sales, taking chiefly ’greasy merinos. At the London wool sales 9278 bales were offered, including 4469 New Zealand and 4693 Australian. Approximately- 8256 New Zealand and Australian were sold. Good Home and Continental demand at steady rates. New Zealand greasy merino. Dnmgree top 131 d—average 123 d. SYDNEY. Ma’eh 21. At to-day’s wool sales 12,047 bales werp offered, and 11,392 were sold, also 1017 bales privately. Continental operators gave increased support, and values for all better class wools were" from par to five per cent, higher than yesterday. Greasy merino made 17d.
