SWIMMING
Blackball Carnival (Our Own Correspondent.) A swimming Carnival was held at Blackball on Sunday. Beautiful weather prevailed and a large crowd of spectators enjoyed a good afternoon’s sport. Fast swimming and interesting finishes kept the crowd at a high pitch of excitement. Prominent among the competitors was A. Vincent, of Greymouth, West Coast champion, who was loudly applauded and acclaimed the best swimmer even seen here. The Ritchie Bros, and the Shuttleworth Bros, helped to give the sport a won derful lift with their respective per formances. The ladies were more pro minent than usual and all swam well. A pleasing feature was the response of the younger children. The handicapping was in the capable hands of Mr. L. Kinsella. Mr. S. Blair judged the diving. Mr. G. Cruse acted as starter. Mr. R. Duncan and Mr. F. Meadowcroft were referees. The Baths Committee are to be congratulated on the manner in which the carnival was controlled. Results: Boys 33 1-3 yards (under 10): G. Jamieson 1; W.
