NELSON, February 14. When a Glenhope-Nelson train. which was conveying troops from the Tapawera camp was nearing Nelson; last evening a number of cows strayed on to the line. The train sped through the herd, killing two. One beast was thrown 12 feet in the air. PALMERSTON NORTH, Feb. 14. Horace Greer, a workman on the construction of the new bridge over the Manawatu River, escaped grave injury when he overbalanced and fell 50 feet from the top of the arch span into the riverbed. He dropped into the deepest part of the river, in about eight feet of water. Coming to the surface he began to swim, although dazed, and w r as pulled out by workmates. He received several stitches, I having a deep cut on the top of his * head.
