A message from Berkeley, California states that a strong earthquake, one of the most serious recorded, occurred on Monday. Professor Perry Byerly, thi University California seismologist, sa 4 it must, have caused great, damage, unless the shock were centred at sea. A arious sections of California reported u -hock lasting two m'inutes.
