Serious Condition (Per press Associatiou.) WELLINGTON, January 1. Archbishop Redwood is seriously ill at Lewisham Hospital, where this morning it was necessary to perform a major operation. His right leg was amputated above the knee, following upon indications of gangrene, which had troubled him for some weeks. It was only as a last hope that his medical advisers recommended amputation. It was reported this evening that His Grace was as well as could be expected in the circumstances. DEATH OF ENGLISH CARDINAL. LONDON, January 1. The death has occurred of Cardinal Bourne. He was 72 years of age, and had been Archbishop of Westminster 31 years, and Cardinal 23 years.
