HIKURANGI MINES

WATER RISING STEADILY. WHANG AR El, October 8. The water in the abandoned mine shaft at Hikurangi continued to rise slowly, and reached over 120 ft. At the Hikurangi Coal Company’s Waro mine the water is rising steadily and may be expected to reach what is termed No. 8 level in a few days. The pumps were withdrawn some time ago from levels below No. 8 and placed at No. 8 lexel, where it is expected to hold the water for some time.

Air. AV. Barclay, inspector of mines, of Huntly, is making an inspection of the mines.
