BAND CONTEST

RESULTS AT GERALDINE. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, October 7. • Canterbury Provincial Band Contest was held at Geraldine on Saturday. Five bands competed in the B and C Grades, and six in the Highland Pipe section. Mr J. Dixon (Dunedin) judged the brass section, and Mr. D. MeKechnie the pipe section. Results: — B Grade Quickstep.—Ashburton Silver, 261pts, Ist; Christchurch Municipal, 252|pts, 2nd. C Grade. —Timaru Municipal Junr., 250|pts, Ist; Geraldine District, 241 pts, 2; Ellesmere Brass, 229|pts, 3rd.

B Grade Test Selection.—Ashburton Silver, 87pts, Ist; Christchurch Municipal, 85pts, 2nd.

C Grade Test Selection. —Timaru Municipal Junr., 89pts, 1; Geraldine District, 82pts, 2; Ellesmere Brass, 78 pts, 3rd. The Pipe Band section resulted as follows:—

Quickstep.—Ashburton County Pipe Band, 170ipts, Ist; Scottish Society of New Zealand (Christchurch), 169Apts, 2nd; Temuka Pipe Band, 164|pts, 3rd. Test Selection.—Timaru Highland, 92pts, and Scottish Society of New Zealand Band, 92pts (equal) Ist; Ashburton ’County, 83pts( 3rd. With their handicap, Timaru Highland won the Ashburton County Scot tish Society’s Shield, with 243Apts, the Scottish Society of N.Z. Band being second with 343.
