MONTHLY MEETING HELD. At the monthly meeting of the Groymouth Women’s institute, held in Wesley Hall. Mrs Chalk presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mcsdfim.es Gallagher and Frankpitt. .11. was decided to conduct a sales table every meeting day, a Christmas Tree in December, and the halfyearly West Coast Council -feting at Hie Town Hall on October 26, for which members are askej ‘o send along exhibits for the exhibition table. Delegates appointed for the Council were Mesdames Murray and Peek. It was decided that a social and dance be hold in Trinity Hall on the eve of October 26. Invitations were received from the Ikamatua and TVallsend Institutes to attend their birthday celebrations. The President read a short address on Institute management. Seven new members were admitted. The competition for the afternoon was an article made from a sugar bag ami resulted.—Miss Gibb 1. Mrs Hodgkinson 2 ( Mrs Dodd 3; and for the, poems sent in. Mrs Thompson was first, Mrs Fagerlund second and Mrs Chalk third. During the afternoon, Mrs Walter gave a demonsitration of smocking, an.i Mrs Green a tatting demonstration, for which hearty votes of thanks were passed. Owing to so many things to go through, the community bed quid tC'Ould' not be started, and it was decided to start it next Friday. The President thanked all who brought cups and saucers, and a vote of thanks was passed Ito Mr McMinn for making a. cupboard for the crockery. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mesdames Taylor and Parfitt, ac'•onipanistes for the afternoon. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Fairhall, Walter, Hodgkinson, Congreve. Parfi/t and Green, who provided a dainty afternoon tea.
