BRITISH STEAMER

SINKS IN ATLANTIC. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) . NEW YORK, October 3. It is feared to-day that the British freighter Millpool, from Danzig to Montreal, foundered during the heavy gale late on Monday, seven hundred miles off the coast of Labrador, carrying twenty-six of a crew. Two ships criss-crossed the last given position of the Millpool, without finding a trace. The British freighter, Ainderby, from Swansea (Wales) to Montreal, is also distressed in mid-Atlantic, the number one hatch and forward iron bulkhead being stove in. The bridge is partly wrecked. The chief officer is injured. Two ships are standing by. RUGBY, October 3. The Cunard liner Antonia and the British cargo steamer, Thematon, are standing by the Ainberby, 4,860 tons, which is carrying coal from Swansea to Montreal, and is hove to 1500 miles east of New York with hatches smashed by huge waves. The Ainderby crew totals 35. One young apprentice was washed overboard and lost.
