A CITY MENACED

by stolen explosive. (Received October 3 at 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 2. A message from Bridgeport, in Connecticut, states that a thief stole two hundred pounds of the explosive “Polnol. ” This amount of that explosive is sufficient to demolish the city of Bridgeport, which has 150,000 of a population. The thief is being sought frantically by the police to-night. The authorities have utilised the press and the radio to beseech the thief to surrender the loot. It was taken from the plant of the Remington Arms Company.

Experts declare that the slightest disturbance detonates Polnol, one pound of which is said to be as powerful as one ton of black powder.
