MELBOURNE, October 2. ’Thomas Norwood, aged 35, assistant stationmaster at Carnegie railway station, was shot twice in the back and killed by an armed bandit, who attempted to steal £147, which Norwood was making up in his office. The thief escaped. HOBART, October 2. Three United Australia Party candidates in Tasmania have been elected for the Senate. Those successful were Senators H. Hays, C. W. Grant and J. B. Hayes.
