YESTERDAY’S GAMES Two games in the men’s championship were played at Victoria Park yesterday. Pacific and Cobden drew, one all, the scorers being Knapp for Pacific and Weir for Cobden. The game was not of a high standard, both reams playing short. Lamberton and Keddie were the best Pacific ba'cks, while Carter, Truman and Weir played consistently for Cobden. The second game was a much brighter exhibition, St. Columba, who led by 4 to 1 at half-time, finishing up winners against Technical by 5 to 4. Scorers for St Columba were Williams, Horrock, McDonnell, O ’Connor and Butler, and Price, Smythe. Vaughan and Peek found the net for Technical. The Tech. * forwards, particelarly Smythe and Harvey played well and were unlucky not to score on two occasions. Williams, Horrock and O’Connor were consistent for St. (,’olumba. AUSTRALIANS BEAT * HOROWHENUA. OTAKT. August 22. On arrival here the Australians met by the Mayor and President of the Horowhenua Hotkey Association and officials, and welcomed. Afterwards they were welcomed by the Maoris and were entertained by poi dances and at afternoon tea. They visited the Maori Church. To-day the weather was fine and ther c was a large attendance at the game J The first spell saw Penman goal from a splendid shot. Early in the game Horowhenua played well and attacked the goalkeeper, but Watson saved in great style, clearing hot attacks The second spell saw play travel well up and down field rapidly, despite the heavy ground. A shot was stopped by Stenning and Tester netted from an awkward angle. Penman followed with a goal and Mints sent to Stenning. who 'centred, making the score three to nil. Australia was very smart in the circle and displayed great stick work. Play continued to be of a fast nature, applause greeting both sides, but the goalkeepers played well. Australia stopped rushes repeatedly by clever stick work, but Horowhenua played determinedly With 12 minutes to play the game was exciting, Horowhenua playing hard to save, and their defensive play was solid. Then Australia attacked and Penman scored. making the s'core four to nil. Horo. whenua then attacked and a penalty bully was awarded against Lelievre, but Morgan failed to score. The game ended; Australia 4; Horowhenua 0.
