'l'he Dublin correspondent of the ‘•Daily Mail’’ says that an auctioned calf, clad in a blue shirt, was carried by a procession of thousands of farmers when demonstrating at Afullinger after a forced sale of cattle for the non payment of annuities. The farmers previously had made an effort to prevent the auction by felling trees at dangerous road corners, necessitating Civic Guards and armed detectives sawing their way through. When the roads were cleared the farmers felled more trees to prevent the removal of the cattle by motor. The Sheriff s helpers struck and refused to assist at the sale, but they were replaced. Several of the cattle were bought in cheaply by United Ireland Party officials. LONDON, August 17. The Dublin correspondent of “The Times” states that the newspaper strike is now three weeks old. The newspapers have lost the Horse show revenue and are determined not to relent until the strikers’ demands are more reasonable.
