MOTOR FALLS 100 FEET
On Denniston Hill TWO MEN SERIOUSLY HURT. (Per Press Association.) WESTPORT. August 18. , A serious accident occurred on the Denniston road this afternoon, when a car, driven by Trevor Rich ards, his father, Walter Richards (Power House 'Engineer), and D. S. Loder, school teacher, as passengers, went over a 100 feet hank. Both of the latter were removed to Denniston Hospital,, suffering firom serious injuries. Loder, who was duo to be married next (week, 'was leaving Denniston on Monday to accept a school teaching appointment at Cricklewood, near Timani. He was well-known as a Rugby footballer, having captained Buller team year. The driver of the car escaned with slight injuries. The accident occurred about halfway down the hill, which is seven miles away from, and 170 D feet above, Westport. The car, which was driven by Richards, was endeavouring to pass another vehicle and went too far out. The car. a fivescat er, was badly damaged. Tt was on its hood just above a rocky creek. SHEPHERD’S EAT AL FALL. CHRISTCHURCH. August 18. Jack Collier, aged 36, head shepherd on Haiwkswood station, Parnassus. was killed yesterdav afternoon when he fell ovord a 70 feet cliff. His mother lives at Auckland. The owner of tho station, J. F. MacFarlane, is at present in Australia. CHILD’S FATAL SCALDING. WELLINGTON. August 18.
