SCOW PORTLAND

Then a hole in her bow was patched with a tarpaulin, and pumps were rigged. Gradually, the vessel was emptied, and she wac hauled to high water mark. The “Portland” is holed on the starboard side near the bo>w. It wa« reported tio-day that a heavy log. 2* feet through and about 30 feet long, was seen drifting near the scene of ’-he wreck. Tt is thought possible that this was the cause of the mishap.
