MORE STATE CONTROL
In Private Business CANADIAN PREMIER’S FORECAST (Received August 17 at 9.10 pm.) OTTAWA. August 16. A message from Saint John. New Brunswick states that when addressing a banquet to-night the Prime Minister, Mr Bennett, said that in spite of the, improving economic conditions and evidence of a recovery on every side, Canada in eemmon with most of the world, had ktill to solve one of th e sternest problems growing out of the depression. That was the question of whether the so-called capitalistic system would be retained or would b e replaced by a system opposed to it. He voiced a warning thaL while every effort of the Government had been directed towards th c main tenance of the capitalistic system, a decision on the part of the nation so closely allied to Canada as the United States to adopt a radically different policy would make a tremendous impression upon the economic life of the Dominion. II,» said: “I am convinced that, there will be more, and not less interference by Governments in private business.”
