NORTH ISLAND STORM. WELLINGTON, August 17. Eketahuna was visited by a g of exceptional violence, the wind increasing in velocity up to midnight. Considerable damage was done. A number of old wooden buildings were wrecked, verandahs are down, winlows broken, and board fences flattened. ’The electric light was intermittent through the night, with wires contacting. One main supply line is out of commission. The telephone service is disorganised. DUNEDIN August 17. Under the will of Michael Angelo Craven, who died at Dunedin on August 1. provision is made that, on the termination of a prior life interest a legacy of £lOO is to be paid to the Dr Barnado’s Home. NAPIER, August 17. Alleging that the Government has made a profit of £12.000 per annum from the sale of motor number plates. Mr E A. Batt at the Motor Union Conference moved that the Union support n proposal that the eighteen pence
paid by tli c Highway’s Board to the P. and T. Department for each set of number plates be discontinued. The mo-■-ian was lost.
