(Our Own Correspondent.) Transport Licenses Issued: WESTPORT, August 15. At the Westport Licensing Authority held yesterday. Dr S. A. Gibb was in the chair, and associated with him were Afes.-'i's J Hannan and A. E. Reid. The Railway Department was represented Uy Mr E. S. Brittendcr, Traffic Manager, Christchurch, p. R. Egan was granted a goods license between Westport and Karamea The Chairman was of the opinion it was not a case for restriction regarding the Railway portion of the route. Wm. Boyd was granted a renewal of a goods license between Westport. Denniston and Burnett’s Face. An application by Denniston Motors in ~on I nection with the Waimangaro% Dennistn service was also granted. The White Bus Service operating between Westport and Seddonville was granted. A one-way goods license, conditionally upon the applicant. (Air Humphreys; supplying copies of way bills- for goods '•arried between. Westport and Seddon ville am] Vice versa, was granted. Bevan and Company were granted a two vehicle goods license from Westport to Lnangahua also from Westport t-o Ai.'illcrtop Burnett ’s Face for delivery of products of N.Z. Breweries. A. for a two vehicle goods license from Westport to lnangahua with an amendment to increase the load from four to 6vq tons. An application was also made for the Charleston service. Hospital Matters: Hon. Mclntyre was in Hie chair at the monthly meeting of the Buller ilo.--pital Board yesterday. A tender from another firm, which was much higher was chosen. Nurse Tremain’s resignation from the sta.fi was accepted and Nurse Mclntosh wn.s appointed permanetly. Messrs McKenna, Burns, Bracket I and C. Martin, members of the Stockton Aledical Association waited on the. Board and asked for an allowance of outstanding fees. It was agreed, after listening to the deputation. to wipe out £l5O of the •arrears, providing the Association pays the remainder and keeps up current payments. Prospecting Scheme: Mr J. Niven wa>< in the chair at the monthly .meeting of the Buller M.in’hig (’ommittee held yesterday. Several applications for the subsidy and transfers were dealt with. Air Povyell, referring to gold returns considered that the prospectors should be paid the full value of their gold from the Banks on delivery instead of having to wait, long period for th e bonus. For men working under hardships, he considered this an inconvenience. He moved that the Committee make representation for tho men on the subsidy to be fuliy paid ’Jp on delivery or as near possible, allowing for fluctuations in price.—Seconded by Hon. Mclntyre and carried. It was decided to furnish ropes, etc., to erect cages across rivers at Waimangaroa, Karaniea and Charleston districts, and an application 'is to be made to the Board for same. It was pointed out by Air McPaddeu that ac-

cess was needed in these parts, where floods etc., often held up the prospectors and he expressed great confidence in the futur e of the Karaniea district as far as gold mining was concerned. It. was considered that, the time was opportune for representations to have the back country opened up and fuliy developed for gold prospecting. The Chairman ;<aid that young men living in a district should not be shifted back if they had workable claims in their own Vicinity. Air Archer agreed that these men should be so treated, providing that they were not put in the place of men who, although not actually living in a district, had come there to try and make an honest living by working claims. A letter was received from Air Jessep, ex-Deputy Chairman of th e Unemployment Board, thanking the Committee for their co-operation during his- term of office. The Secretary, Air Schadiek, reported as follows:— Gold sold for the month of July, 1934: 9510z5, valued at £620 8s fid. Equipment at 50 per cent., £5O 9s Bd. Total gold won to date: 1363 ozs 4 dwts, valued at £BB7O 18s 3d. PROSPECTORS.

Band Concert: I'be afteiidaneo at the concert held in the. Theatre Royal last evening by the Municipal Band was not very large. 'l’he band, under the baton of Mr M. K.
