HERD TESTING

A TARANAKI ACHIEVEMENT. 300 LB. AVERAGE. ITA.WERA,. August 14. To celebrate for the first time the New Zealand achievement of the but terfat average production aimed at by the Dominion Group Herd Testing Federation. namely 300 lbs per cow, the South Taranaki Herd Testing Association with a record of 309 891bs per cow for last season held a dinner yesterday evening. Those present included th P Minister of Agriculture, also Messrs Singleton, G. Bell (Dominion President of the Federation). Hon. Mr McMillan, referring to the subsidies to herd testing, said the matter had received attention in the estimates. Parliament recognised. the importance of agricultural needs. The Economy Commission had recommended the gradual elimination of the farmers’ subsidies, but he did not agree with that. Mr McMillan presented a certificate to Mr Tonks, the Chairman, remarking that the gift would bo appreciated as a tangible memento of lbw achievement of the members
