BURGLARIES
ANOTHER AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND. July 31. Colin William Glass, 21, labourer, appeared at the Police Court to day, with a. closed blackened left. <»y<‘, to answer a charge of stealing jewellery worth £3 Ils from a. dwelling at 340 Queen Street, last night. He was rej manded. until August 7. This followed a. sensational chase, last evening, over the roof-tops in the vicinity of St. James- Theatre. M. Faeoory, a boxing trainer, while in a fish shop, saw a .man on the roof. The man called out that he was a detective, but Facoorv was suspicious and telephoned to the p<»li<-e. Two detectives shortly arrived, and gained access to the roof, and followed iht' man on to the top of the theatre. There, it is al’eged. he threatened his pursuers with a, revol ve’n. With the detectives was .1. Jurie, a trained boxer, who wrenched the revolver from him and knocked him out. When he recovered consciousness he was taken to the lock-up. Jurie had a similar encounter a short time ago, when he surprised a man attempting to rob a shop till and handed him over to the policy. WELLINGTON BURGLARIES. WELLINGTON, July 31. An epidemic of burglary took place in Kelburn over the week-end, a gweer’s shop in Upland Road, and three private houses in Paroa Road being visited. P. R. Hazelwood, grocer, had £I4C taken from a safe. A small motoi car was stolen from Glen Road, but was recovered undamaged yesterday The houses visited were ransacked and small sums of money taken. The occupiers were W. N. Sat forth waite P». C. Fowler and P. D. Menard. HAWKER ARRESTED. WELLINGTON, July 31. George Alexander Low, 31. hawke., whom, the police stated was arrested when attempting to leave the Dominion yesterday, appeared it the Court to-day on charges of theft of six pairs of gloves from Triggs and Denton, and ftW valued at over £2O fron Deton Ltd. He was remanded without bail.
