Mr P. J. McLean leaves by this morning’s express for Christchurch. Mrs E. Lee, Blaketown, will leava to-day on a visit to Auckland. Miss Alva Mclntosh, of Hokitika, who ’ is been on holiday in Wellington, arrived home on Tuesday. The death has occurred at Sydney of Alexander Jarvie Hood, aged 73, a distinguished surgeon. Mr 11. Bowes, of the Greymouth branch of the Commercial Bank, has received notice of transfer to Christchurch. Archbishop Redwood leaves Wellington for Sydney to-day, and will spend part of the winter in Brisbane. Miss K. Thomson, Dental Nurse at the Grey Main School Clinic, left last evening for Christchurch. The death is announced from Wellington of Mr Ronald Keith Lyon, Secretary of the Wellington Savage Club, and accountant and manager of Aubrev Gualter and Co. Mr C. N. Taylor, who has been attending the funeral of his sister. MrF. Williams. returned yesterday to Wellington, via Nelson. He was accompanied by his father, Mr Joseph Taylor, of Cobden. The death took place at Greytown on May sth. of Mr Richmond Hansom Turton, at one time Stipendiary Mag- ; istratc on the West Coast. The deceased served in the War, and since returning to New Zealand had been practising as a solicitor at Greytown. Mr Courtney Fraser, of Reefton, met with a painful accident yesterday morning. While engaged chopping wood at Reefton saddle, the axe inflicted a wound on his left foot at the instep, which necessitated several stitches being inserted by Dr. Wicken. Mr E. Ritchie, Conciliation Commis- * sioner. who i.ns presided over the sittings of the Conciliation Council at Reefton in connection with the quart? mining dispute, arrived in Greymouth last evening. An interesting personality on the Wanganella. which arrived at We’.- I lington from Sydney yesterday, was Mr H. Edgell, who has spent many ■ years wandering in strange and in- | hospitable countries, hunting and cap- • turing wild animals, birds and reptiles for the world’s menageries. For some years Mr Edgell was manager for Carl Hagenbeck. the famous wild animal dealer, whose captures are to be seen in practically every zoo in the world. —Press Assn.
