GAMBLING CASES. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 24. Several men who were arrested on January 13, on changes of conducting premises as common gaming houses, were dealt with by Magistrate Hunt to-day. Martin Joseph O’Connor was fined £5O, or three months’ imprison meat; Jack Gilbert Hooper, for a first offence, £25, or two months; John Francis Me Conn or and John Heard Ansell £lO each. The charge against Henry Clifton Sallery was further adjourned for hearing by another Magistrate THEFT CASES. DUNEDIN. January 23. Margaret Thompson, aged forty-nine, married, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment on a charge of stealing one pound of t’ca from a shop. When arrested she had a knife and sweets in hep possession, which she admitted pealing from another shop. When a search was made of her house, thirty pairs of unused silk stockings were found.
