Th P Secretary of the Gillespie’s Beach Gold Dredging Co., Ltd., reports that a letter just received from Die Dredgemaster, dated January 8, advises that he ha s commenced dredging, and h-e expects to work the full three shifts in a few days. Up to the present, it has been impossible to keep the correct dregding time, as a good many alterations have been made, with ,th o result that although the dredge may have been running, very little material was treated. The paddock is opening out well, and they are now able to swing the dredge round, but at present Hu rt 1 is very little room at the stern, which will be remedied in a few days. A wash-up can be expected about January 20.
The Nokomai Company will make a further wash-up next Saturday, Last Saturday’s partial wash-up was 255 ozs 7dwt. The total area of the bottom o f the No. 3 paddock is 88 feet by 176 feet. The Mahakipawa mine’s w'ash-up on January 14 was 17ozs lOdw't alluvial gold. Bell-Hooper return last week was 20oz 12dwt 6grs. In a report to the Directors of Skipper’s, Ltd., Mr R, D. Climie, the recently-appointed manager, states
that after a thorough investigation of the site and conditions, he is very confident of the success of the scheme for winning - gold formulated by the Company’s Engineer, Mr W. Morgan Gimson. WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY. WELLINGTON, January 16. The directors of the Wellington Gas Company, in their sixjty-fourth annual report for the year ended December 31, 1933, stated that, considering the adverse financial and economic conditions with which they had to contend, the results achieved may be considered satisfactory. After payment of an interim dividend of 4 per cent, on ordinary shares, providing for deprevia/ion of plant, buildings and machinery. and also for the debenture redemption fund and insurance fund, the balance to credit of profit and loss ■amounts to £25.559 15s 4<l- The directors recommend that this sum should he .appropriated as follows: — Payment of dividend of 4 per cent, (making 8 per cent for year) £11.152 Bs. carry forward £14.407 7s 4.1. Tl.e dividend is at the same rale as last year. .Stiles of gas :tnd residuals for 1933 were £227,609, compared with £233,775 for 1932. Cos' of coal manufacture, distribution and other incidental charges for 1933 was £114,277. compared with £.118,181 for 1932. Management, salaries ami other charges totalled £32.041, or were £3OO less than the previous year. Rates and taxes at £22 972 were about £2O less. Balance carried down to profit and loss for 1933 was £55,630, compared with £52,602 in 1932.
