board OF GOVERNORS. A meeting of the Board of Governis of the Greymouth Technical School .vas held last evening, when there were present Messrs T. E. Coates (Chairman), J. B. Kent, W. H. Parfitt, W. Blair, W. Kyle, A. J. Fairmaid, Dr. J. W. Meßrcarty, and the Principal (Air R. McLaren). Accounts totalling £lO5 Is 9d were passed for payment. Arising out of the minutes of the previous meeting, wherein Dr. McBrearty and the Chairma.n were appointed to interview Mr W. B. Hutton regarding the coaching of the senior football team. Dr. Alcßrearty said that they had duly spoken to Air Hutton, who had expressed his willingness to carry on with the senior, as well as the junior boys, and to do his best in the matter. He had denied that he had ever expressed his willingness to hand the senior boys over to an outsider. The Principal reported that Air IL P. K. Kania, the Board’s appointee o the vacant position of Science and Al::thematics master, would conimenec his duties at the School at the end of the present month. The action of the Principal ol appointing Mr Whitehouse to fill the position in the meantime was endorsed. Air Parfitt, for lhe Visiting Committee, reported that everything was in order at the School, and that, the grounds wore looking particularly fine. Dr. Alcßrearty and Air Kyle were appointed the Visiting Committee for the month. Principal ’ s Report. The Principal’s monthly report was as follows: The average roll is now 329 and the average attendance is 93 per cent. First Terni Reports. —These were sent out to the parents on Friday and Stiturday, sth and 6th Alay. All the pupils of the various classes were commented on and on the average the i reports were quite satisfactory. Second Term. —The School resumed on Tuesday, 23rd Alay. The attendance [for the first week was a little below the average, but now is very satisfactory. Staff. —Air Davis left us on Friday. sth Alay. to undertake his new duties in Auckland. He received from the staff and the pupils a very hearty send-off. Interim Teacher. —The Department has approved the appointment of a relieving instructor till the end of .June, when our permanent .appointee, Mr Kania, of the Invercargill Technical School, will arrive. Meanwhile, Mr Whitehouse, from Timaru Bovs’ High School, fill the va-

canev. The other members of the stn.fi’ were ail at their posts as usual. The Inspector’s reports on the various activities of the School have been forwarded for the Boards’ confidential consideration. King's P,irthday Sports: Boys’ Football. —We entered 10 teams (70 boys) in the seven-a-side competition. I am pleased to report tha.t our results, after a splendid day’s endeavour and good sportsmanship. were quite good—three tennis were runnersup and one secured first place. Alueh credit is due to lhe male members of lhe staff for their enthusiasm and co-opera-tivc organisation in selecting and placing the various teams on the field. Our Soccer teams played their usual Saturday fixtures. Girls’ Basketball. — In this section our girls did remarkably well. AVc entered four senior and Iwo junior teams. Good games resulted in our girls winning the tournament prize—a new basketball. The report was received as satisfactory. Resignations Received. Air F. L. Turley forwarded his resignation from the Board, giving as his reason that it was his intention to retire from all public bodies. The (’hairman: I move that the resignation be accepte.l with regret and a minute of appreciation of his vain aide services be recorded. Air Parfitt: .lie has been on the Board since its inception and ha.s done good work. Airs L. Shuttleworth also forwarded her resignation, giving as her reason her inability to attend the meetings of the Board with any degree of regularThc Chairman moved that Airs C. Cha-lk be appointed to fill the vacancy in the meantime, as the Board had the power to appoint her. This was .seconded by Air Parfitt and carried, and it was decided to ask the Unions to nominate a successor for Mr Tu rley. Mr Mitchell, of lhe School staff. wa.s given permission to have repairs el J'ected io the motor lawn mower. The 'Board then went into committee Io discuss several matters, including the Inspectors’ confidential report upon the School.
