(Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, Ji.int> 7. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Library Committee was h*‘ld last evening when there were present: — Messrs T. W. Dull (Chairman), A. C Armstrong, A. J. Thompson, D. P. Stuart. Dr Teichelmann, 11. G. IA ('oles, W. Wilson and the Secretary. The Hokitika Borough Council notified its representatives on the Library Committee for the ensuing term. The letter was received, and Mr Duff was elected Chairman of the Committee for the en suing term It was decided to hold o subscribers’ meeting on Tuesday, July 4, in order that the subscribers’ representatives may be electod to the committee. The Treasurer reported a satisfactory credit balance. Arrears which wore irrecoverable were written off. Suggestions put forward for the committee’> consideration wer ( . approved and adopted. As !t result the magazines for circulation are to be strengthened and bound in order that they may bo more suitable. circulation among the subscribers. The Treasurer w:is authorised to have shelving made suit able for the housing of the magazines. General regret was expressed at the distinct loss sustained by the retiremeit of Mr I) J Evans, ami it was unanimously decided to place on record their appreciation of the valuable services given by him. and that a letter be sent expressing the appreciation of liie committee. The berthage at the Hokitika wharf is at present very low. being about a '•oiiph- of foot at low tide, which causes the boats in port to lean up against the wharf or on their sides when the tide is out. After the Borough Council meeting on Eriday night, representatives of local bodies will meet to dis-

cuss the turning of the river from its present course, taking it alongside the wharf.

Tin. following Hokitika business has been sot down for hearing at the present sitting of the Supreme Court: — Sotirle v. Westland Racing Club, claim £1029 (Mr Elcock for plaintiff. Mr Murdoch, instructed by Mr Sellers for defendant Club). The latter case will be taken by His Honor at Hokitika on Eriday, commencing at 10 a.m. In this case His Honor will sit alone with a jury.
